- A measurement plan is developed.

- Baseline performance is established.

Analyze Opportunity

This is the stage that helps the company to establish the relationship between Response Variables (Process Y's) and Control Variables (Process X's). During this six sigma implementation phase:

- Low level process maps are created.

- Process capability for KPOV's is established.

- Relationships between KPOV's and process X's are established.

- Potential root causes of variation are identified.

Improve Performance

This stage permits companies to reduce major sources of variation and re-target the process. During this six sigma implementation phase:

- Key Process Input Variables (KPIV's) are identified.

- KPIV's tolerance is determined.

- Process average is re-targeted.

- Process variation is reduced.

- Process robustness is improved.

Control Performance

This stage facilitates the implementation of process controls to sustain the improved process performance. During this six sigma implementation phase:

- Measurement integrity for KPIV's is confirmed.

- Process capability for KPIV's is established.

- Statistical Process Control for KPIV's is implemented.

- Replication opportunities are identified.
